Established in 2014. Affiliated to MAKAUT

From Desk of Director

Dear Students and Parents: Welcome to Hemnalini Memorial College of Engineering in Kalyani More near Kalyani town (see location map and directions). Our new college has been granted approval from All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) and affiliation from Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University Of Technology(formly known as West Bengal University of Technology )for offering B.Tech. degrees in: 1. Civil Engg. 2. Mechanical Engg. 3. Computer Science and Engg. 4. Food Technology and 5. Civil and Environmental Engineering. I believe you are all familiar with the first three courses. Many other colleges are offering these courses since the job prospects are excellent for students graduating from these programs

About Us

Hemnalini Memorial College of Engineering is a new Technical Institute, Hemnalini Memorial College of Engineering, under Bhattacharya Engineering Education and Research Trust has been constructed in Balindi near Kalyani, a municipal town in Nadia, WB. The college is under the newly formed Haringhata municipality.
The college is already a part of education and research destination with Kalyani University, Indian Institute of Science, Education and Research (IISER), National Institute of Biomedical Genomics, Bidhan Chandra Agricultural University (BCKV), Haringhata Dairy Farm, as well as the new campus of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad(MAKAUT). The Govt. of West Bengal has just (Nov 29, 2013) offered 70-acre land to Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics (SINP) in this educational hub to compete for the Rs. 6000-cr synchrotron center project.
Our college is by the Kalyani Road near "Kalyani More" on NH 34 about 9 km from Kalyani main railway station with adequate public transportation from Kalyani and Kolkata as well as from north of the district. Across the college is the Eastern Headquarters of Border Security Force (BSF) and another institution (Dolphin college under WBUT).
The 10-acre contiguous land was leased to Bhattacharya Engineering Education and Research Trust by Govt. of West Bengal (BLRO of Haringhata) for 99 years. The site is under Kolkata Metropolitan City (KMC). The construction was started in 2011 and about 65,000 sq. ft. of the building has been completed as of November 30, 2013, fulfilling the requirement of AICTE to start a new engineering college.
Our Director, Dr. Sanjoy Bhattacharya, has a Ph.D. (1985, Drexel University, Philadelphia) in Environmental Engineering and an MBA (1989, U. of Cincinnati). He has worked with USEPA and U. of Cincinnati from 1986 to 1989 and was a tenured faculty at Tulane University, New Orleans from 1990. In 2008, he and Mrs Malobika Bhattacharya formed the Trust in West Bengal. After giving a prayer to the DM of Nadia to start an environmental college and promote education in the district, the LLR Dept. leased the 10 acre land for 99 years to the Trust. The site is under KOLKATA METROPOLITAN CITY (KMC) and Haringhata municipality.
This new college, HEMNALINI MEMORIAL COLLEGE Of Engineering(HMCE), is the first activity of the Trust.

Meritorious students and students belonging to low economic background can avail upto 75% scholarship. We also provide assistance for state and national scholarships for the benefit of the students.

Vision & Mission

As an engineering institute, we will contribute to the further development of the State of West Bengal in pollution control and make our water and air safe for our children and grandchildren while sustaining our infrastructure growth. We will continue to promote women participation in core engineering courses by providing scholarships. Our vision is also to work closely with the community for environmental education. We want to successfully motivate the faculty, non-teaching staff and the students to volunteer for free, regular adult education programs with emphasis on public health. It appears from the WB Govt. website that the Dist. of Nadia require more active adult education facilities when compared with other states in West Bengal. Currently, there is only a handful number of programs in Environmental Science and Engineering in our state and we are in need of more environmental engineering and science programs. THE PROPOSED COLLEGE WILL FULFILL THIS NEED.

Bhattacharya Engineering Education and Research Trust was formed by its Trustees to build Hemnalini Memorial College Of Engineering(HMCE) to focus on Environmental Science & Engineering and related education. All members of this institute, irrespective of their background will work together to address the technical aspects of our environmental problems at all levels, i.e., high school, adult education, technical training schools as well as higher education. Even though we believe that Environmental Engineering should be a separate course at the post-graduate level, we also believe that all engineers at B.Tech. level must incorporate environmental issues in their designs rather than doing something after a waste is produced. The mission is to integrate pollution control with the engineering design approach for ALL disciplines. Other engineers must not just wait for environmental engineers to do the CLEAN-UP. Also, when it comes to environmental pollution control, scientists, engineers, and social workers MUST work together. Engineers and scientists must have some knowledge about SOCIOLOGY to deal with our environmental problems and communicate with the general population. Our mission is to promote teaching and research in Environmental Science and Engineering through collaborative efforts with other established institutes and by promoting entrepreneurship in environmental problem solving. A development cell will be run in the college to create genuine enthusiasm in entrepreneurship.
